I have a new laptop? What do I need to do to get everything from my old one without losing my info?
I'm getting a new laptop and I need to know how to get all my software, programs, photos, etc. It already has Windows 10 installed. Do I just backup and recover? If I do it that way will it install everything? I ask because I don't want it try to reinstall windows 10.
Thank you to everyone(except the trolls out there!)

well
1. you will have to manually install programs on the new computer (if you dont have the installers then you will need to find them)
2. copy the photos/documents to the new computer via a flash drive
3. backup and recover only keeps settings about the programs not the programs themselves
if both computers already have windows 10 you dont have to reinstall windows 10....
Software/programs, you'll need to reinstall from scratch. Photos, files, data, etc., you can copy manually from your old computer to a portable USB hard drive then copy to the new laptop. Better that way, more in control.
you cannot backup/restore programs. they will need reinstalled.
otherwise, all your files are in one location:
C:\Users\yourusername\
open any folder, go there, and copy everything there to a flash drive. you can just use Ctrl + A to select all folders, then right-click any of them and click Properties to see what size the flash drive needs to be.
Get a hard drive (to match the amount of info on your old computer), back up the old computer to the hard drive, and recover it to the new PC.
