Has Theology hijacked Philosophy of Religion?
If so, what should universities do about it if anything?

On the contrary, has atheology shipwrecked atheists in the middle of the sea?
No, you have it backwards. Philosophy has hijacked much of the Theology of the Church. Philosophy represents the highest thoughts of humanity's wisdom. God's thoughts are much higher than that, and His plans are much more complex.

Theology is the study of God
if your are looking for hypothetical bs philosophy, don't come here
NO...WE HAVE THE BIBLE SO WE do not need philosophy unless it is someone going to college.
Universities are already filled with critics of religion. If you were a Christian student in a university today you'd be persecuted by atheistic professors who demand your education conforms to their own beliefs.
As people discover the true teaching comes from the Holy Spirit, study of the texts will become less important
No because they are two completely different studies yet they interlope and have capstone courses. i.e. the study or religion is the study of theology. Philosophy is one study in itself however you need philosophy to study religion and theology.
Like pretty much everything else these days, the liberals went ahead and changed the definition of the term, hoping to gain some sort of an advantage. Now, instead of being authentic guides to divine truth, many/most theologians are mere spiritual dilettantes, who are incapable of believing in what they claim to cherish.
No, philosophy of religion hijacked Theology which was long before philosophy came into existence.
Theologically speaking, the Science of Theology includes philosophy of religion.
