Calcium carbonate (MW 100.059 g/mol) decomposes into calcium oxide (MW 56.077 g/mol) and carbon dioxide (MW 44.009 g/mol). If 620 g of calcium carbonate decomposes how man grams of carbon dioxide gas is produced?

CaCO₃ → CaO + CO₂
Mole ratio CaCO₃ : CO₂ = 1 : 1

Moles of CaCO₃ decomposed = (620 g) / (100.059 g/mol) = 6.196 mol
Moles of CO₂ produced = 6.196 mol
Mass of CO₂ produced = (6.196 mol) × (44.009 g/mol) = 273 g

====
OR:
(620 g CaCO₃) × (1 mol CaCO₃ / 100.059 g CaCO₃) × (1 mol CaCO₃ / 1 mol CO₂) × (44.009 g CO₂ / 1 mol CO₂)
= 273 g CO₂
