The atomic number of iodine is 53, while the atomic number of xenon is 54. Iodine-131 and xenon-131 has the same mass number. To convert iodine-131 to xenon-131, a neutron should be converted to a proton and emit an electron, i.e. a β-particle. This is a β decay.
