Isn't it disgusting to clean the inside of a trash can lid with same cloth that's immediately then used to wipe down the kitchen counter?
Seems disgusting to me! That's how my dad thinks one can clean. The cloth is saturated in a bleach solution, but still, I would have used completely separate cloths for cleaning each surface just for peace of mind (and to prevent cross-contamination).
If you answer this question, adding any evidence from a cited credible source would be great. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control is one such source, for example).
Here's why I ask! Technically, he's kind of correct in that if you're using a bleach solution, you can probably wipe down anything. But, uh, still!!!! Peace of mind, ahhh! What would he do next? Use his toothbrush to clean the floor then wash it and reuse it as his personal toothbrush? Disgusting.
Any professional cleaners out there that know the professional way to disinfect surfaces?

I don't know about disgusting, but I do know it's completely in the wrong order.
You always start with food contact surfaces. Then if you're going to continue using the same cloth, move to the sink which is going to be more-or-less clean in the first place, food preparation equipment's controls, then to non-contact surfaces, then to non-touch points, and finally, at the very end, you might wipe off the inside of the garbage lid. That's last.
At my house I have an extremely small kitchen garbage pail, no lid. It gets emptied last thing in the evening. It may seemly a bit inconvenient because sometimes, with such a small capacity, it gets emptied a couple of times per day...but my kitchen never ever has a garbage smell either. So I call that a win.
The trash can would be the last thing you clean, then put the cloth in the wash.
I really don’t believe anyone would use their personal toothbrush for anything but brushing teeth. And why would anyone use a toothbrush to clean a floor.
Stuff like the inside of a trash can lid - or a toilet seat are easily cleaned with TOILET PAPER. Have enough sheets so the liquid you use to clean with doesn't break up the paper (Not as much as you'd expect). Use more TP for drying as well. The best bit is, no worries about using it again (even by mistake!) because you flush it down the toilet when you're finished! I used to clean toilets for a living, and always used toilet paper as a 'rag'. The ONLY hygienic way of doing it! God love your dad. Good on him for cleaning - no offence intended - but his method of cleaning is typical for the way a man thinks. Sorry.
Counter FIRST. Trash can lid LAST. Or not even the same rag...and you pitch the rag into the garbage as the lid is open. Never use it again.
ewwwww
www...that's disgusting--kinda like the time I saw the janitor at school wipe the lunch tables with the same mop he uses on the bathroom.....eeeewwwwwww.
Seems illogical to many these days, but then how old is he? Seems to be working just as it does for so many others from different generations.
