A reaction of the form

aA → Products

gives a plot of [A] vs time (in seconds) which is a straight line with a slope of -6.90 × 10-2. Assuming [A]0 = 0.100 M, calculate the time (in seconds) required for the reaction to reach 80.7 percent completion.

A plot of [A] vs. t would form a straight line if
[A] = -kt + [A]ₒ
where k = 6.90 × 10⁻²

When[A]ₒ = 0.100 M, [A] = (0.100 M) × (100 - 80.7)% = 0.0193 M:
0.0193 = -(6.90 × 10⁻²)t + 0.100
t = (0.100 - 0.0193) / 6.90 × 10⁻²) s
Time required, t = 1.17 s
