Mathematically speaking, if indeed the COVID-19 death rate is just 1 percent then your chance of dying from the virus or knowing someone who dies is 1 in 100. Of course, you or someone you know has to be exposed first.
For now your chance of exposure really depends on what State you live in and how well your local government is handling the crisis. Are the hospitals where you live overwhelmed or are they able to keep diagnosed patients isolated and treat them properly? Does your emergency personnel, doctors and nurses have enough masks and gloves?
But most importantly, how is the public responding to social distancing where you live? A lot of people still aren’t taking the threat seriously. They are touting how the flu kills more people yet doesn’t require social distancing or public shut downs. However, what they forget is that we have vaccinations for the flu which prevent it from killing even more people - - we can’t vaccinate against this virus.
They also tout how the COVID-19 death rate is only 1 percent. Sure 1 person out of a hundred looks FANTASTIC unless you or someone you care about happens to be that ONE person. In that case ODDS don’t matter. Just like a 30 percent chance of rain is irrelevant when you are standing in a downpour.
