What color has more energy, white or violet?

White light contains all of the visible spectrum so I would assume it would be that, but I keep seeing online that violet light is the highest in energy, would someone explain to me? Thank you!

the energy of a photon is
E = h f where h is Planck's constant
Violet is a high frequency light and has high energy
while white is a mixture of frequencies from low to high
and as such is not a 'color' in this context

Light can behave as waves (with a wavelength and frequency).  Or it can be behave as lots of photons - tiny separate packets of energy called photons.

The amount of energy in a single photon is called (not surprisingly) the photon energy.  This is what people mean when they (incorrectly) talk about the energy of light.

Each colour has its own wavelength, frequency and photon energy.

Going through the colours of the rainbow (ROYGBIV) in order:

red: has longest wavelength, lowest frequency, smallest photon energy;

through to:

violet: has shortest wavelength, highest frequency, largest photon energy.

White light is not a pure colour.  It is a mixture of all the colours of the rainbow (ROYGBIV) so it contains photons of many different energies.  This means the photon energy of violet light is bigger than the *average* photon energy of white light.

There is the TOTAL ENERGY and you don't have enough information for that.  It depends on the amount of light.  And there is the PHOTON energy.  Violet light has the highest energy IN EACH PHOTON. White is not a colour so you can say nothing about that either.

this question makes no sense.

Violet photons have more energy than photons of other visible colours. "white" is a mixture of all visible colours

the energy of a wave will be inversely proportional to its wavelength, as such violet color has smaller wavelength when compared to visible light(white light) ,hence violet has more energy than visible light.

violet, assuming equal intensity.

white contains all of the spectrum, true, but for a given intensity, only a small portion of that is in the violet range. Most is blue, red, green, yellow, etc.

Or, to put it another way, the "average" color of a white light is near the middle of the spectrum, about green.
