The number could have easily been more larger given governments all over the globe didnt try to control it, otherwise it would have spread alot more rapidly and taken out a much larger chunk of our population. Panicking is never a rational thing to do as it often leads to irrational decisions which often times makes things worse than they would hav. None the less, that doesn't mean we should be completely relaxed about the situation and not take thw treat seriously either. A right balance is always key my friend.
Statistics can be misleading and useless without "Context". It's why journalists and politicians use them so often to deceive people. In italy, the reality is, since the last two weeks or so, they had 400+ daily(24 hour) deaths a day. Some went up to 700+. If a guy walked in and shoot 700+ people, that is very impactful. So consider "context" when looking at stats.
