Was Ford right to pardon Nixon?

For those of you who were alive at that time, how did you feel about it then and how do you feel about it now?

I can understand why people wanted Nixon to go to prison. But it also seems like Ford wanted to get the country moving forward.

Even Liberals agreed that Ford did the right thing.  They weren't going to get Nixon, anyway, so it was best if Ford pardoned him, just to get it over with, and move forward.  Ford understood that he was throwing himself under the bus: the pardon was one of three factors that blew the election (the other two were his debate loss against Carter, and his stupid "WIN buttons").  Reagan wanted Ford as his running mate in 1980, but Ford rejected the idea.  By that time, the nation had healed from Watergate, and Ford thought it best not to re-open old wounds.  Of course, Nixon dug his own hole, but that's another story.

Nixon being in jail WOULD NOT HAVE HELD THE COUNTRY BACK. WHAT FORD MEANT WAS HE WANTED PEOPLE TO F O R G E T THAT THE REPUBLICANS WERE MONSTERS

Your take on Ford is what he wanted. It's over, let's get over it.

In my opinion, that's a toss-up. On the one hand, if he hadn't we could have had rabid Nixonites rioting. On the other, it was little more than a bungled break-in.

yes he did. Ford wanted the nation to heal, thus pardoning Nixon. It may not have  been a popular move, but he did the right thing.
