(a) P α L³ => P=kL³ , where k - a constantNow, 400=kL³ => k=400/L³
Cutting the marble into 2 blocks of equal length,
new price of each block,
P'=k(L/2)³=(400/L³)(L³/8)=$50
∴ price of 2 blocks=2(50)=$100
So, Mr. Chan's loss=400-100=$300
(b) loss%= (300/400)×100%=75%
