a.There is plenty of wear left in the machine.
b.there is  plenty of wear in the tyres.

left =剩下

wear = the capacity for withstanding continuous use without such damage

Old things were relegated to the bedrooms because there was plenty of wear left in them.

see p.1957 New Oxford American Dictionary Third Edition

句裡的there was...

(a) There is plenty of wear in the tires.
(b) There is plenty of wear left in the tires.

(a)There is plenty of wear left
=it is in a good ,useful condition
=The machine will stand any amount of hard wear
=still suitable for everyday use;
=in constant use
=still looks strong for a long time

(b)There is plenty of wear in the tyres
=wear and tear,damage, loss in value, from normal use
=The tyres are showing signs of wear
=no "left"
=There's not much wear left in these tyres.
=loss in value ; with the word (left)
=cannot be used (=worn) much longer;
