You're on the internet, you can't simply google this?

They are extinct flying reptiles. It is not known from which group of reptiles they evolved. They fly with a flap of skin between their front and rear legs. They are not dinosaurs, and they have non living descendants. Many fossils are found in marine deposits, and some people think that they catch fish and eat them, but I disagree.

The reason a lot of them died in marine environments may be because they are weak flyers, and if they fall into the sea, then they drown. A pelican and a duck can take off from the water directly, but they are modern birds that have the suprecoracoideus muscle. This muscle is not found in ancient birds and it is not found in bats. Bats that fall into the water or to the ground cannot take off flying from those locations. They have to swim out of the water and climb up a tree or a cliff before they can fly. Pterosaurs that fall into the water would simply be unable to take off flying in all likelihood. Even bald eagles that fall into the water have to swim to shore before they can fly, even though they have the supracoracoideus muscle..

Pterosaurs were wiped out 65 million years ago when a giant meteor the size of Mt. Everest struck the earth. All dinosaurs, all pterosaurs and all enantinorithine birds (the dominant land birds of the Mesozoic) were wiped out, simply because the meteor strike was the equivalent of 1 billion (yes billion) atomic bombs, and the temperature after the impact was simply too hot for anything to survive, unless they can find some cool places such as the water or an underground burrow to escape the heat. Shorebirds survived and they are the ancestors of all living birds. Shrew-like mammals survived because they spent most of their time inside burrows, and all living mammals, including humans, are their descendants. The only exception is the egg-laying mammal the platypus. It survived because it was living mostly in the water, and the water helped it survive the heat, just like the water saved frogs, salamanders, crocodiles and turtles from extinction.
