Knocking noise under load when cold Bmw f11?

2020-02-28 11:44 pm
Knocking noise only happens when engine is cold and will knock when under load  noise seems to raise with the revs but there is no noise  when revving in neutral
Then the engine is up to temperature no knocking and runs well Car is f11 520d msport automatic 2012 has 41,000 miles on the clock not showing any fault codes
Any ideas

That is what diesels do. Live with it.

Many engines knock when cold. It's probably piston slap. If it disappears at full temperature it's nothing to worry about. Use fully synthetic oil of the correct viscosity/weight and your BMW should last and last.

Change the oil and oil filter.   Make sure to put the correct oil (BMW approved).

Need higher octane gasoline.
BMW recommends you using only premium-unleaded fuel for any of their vehicles.
