When I need or want a release and partnered sex isn't available masturbation is a safe and effective way to relieve pent up sexual tension and stress.
Nobody is going to get pregnant and you can't catch an STD from it.

Yup.  Almost everyday.  I really like it too.  And I'm in the latter half of my 60s  .I don't remember exactly when I started but I was young.    My wife does it too.  We each do it whenever we want while we are home.  We are also comfortable masturbating in front of each other and enjoy seeing each other have pleasure.  Sometimes we do it together and help each other.  That and regular sexual intercourse keeps us young and playful.
