Looking for a word. Is there a word/phrase to replace “beyond eradication”? ?

I tried to use the term “beyond eradication” in a report and it just doesn’t sound right.

Here’s the scenario: a patient needs treatment, but they’re part of a group than can’t receive certain treatments that may be harmful to them (they’re geriatric, a pregnant mother, or immunocompromised, for example).

My original sentence said, “Those infant, elderly, and immunocompromised patients will require alternative treatment if their illnesses have progressed enough to be beyond eradication by their own immune systems.”

I know the sentence itself has issues. I’m working on it. But right now I’m just looking for an alternative phrase/word for “beyond eradication.”

Thank you for providing the complete sentence. Had you asked for something to replace "beyond eradication" it would be difficult to help.

How about this:

“Patients, such as infants, the elderly, and the immunocompromised, will require alternative treatment(s) if their illnesses have progressed beyond eradication by their own immune systems.”

Beyond eradication is just fine in the original context and the above in my opinion. It clearly conveys a degree of illness that a patient's immune system cannot address the underlying cause and fix itself.

What made the original awkward imo was the "enough to be" which is superfluous. Moving the focus squarely on to patients, then describing them, is mearly a stylistic thing. To my eye it reads better, smoother, BUT there is really nothing wrong with the original.

It sounds fine to me, and I don't see any issues with the rest of the sentence either.
I'm not sure what you think is wrong with it.
