I've been in the mood for a deep, sad book lately. Does anyone know a good book like this?
If it helps, I really like To Kill a Mockingbird, The Old Man and the Sea, The Little Prince... And I'm planning on getting The Five People You Meet in Heaven one day.
(Please don't recommend any sagas)
I once read a good book about Anti Gravity ,,,, i couldn't put it down 😁
A VERY good book, a new one, "Middle England" by Jonathan Coe, but it isn't a sad one. Very different, if you like science-fi, " The girl with all the gifts". And now, what you are really looking for: " les bienveillantes", very great success, a marvel! Sorry, i am French and i don't know the tittle in english but you can ask Google.
The Brief History of the Dead by Kevin Brockmeier
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
Ordinary People by Judith Guest
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
Cormac McCarthy's "The Road."
Do you like poetry books? I enjoy reading them when I am sad.
These are the fews I read recently and really like:
⠀⠀
"Finding Identity" by Silenus
"Peace and Other Radical Ideas" by Sasha Temerte
"Of Yesteryear" by Lauren Eden
Sofia, here are some I've enjoyed that seem to meet your requirements.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter, Kim Edwards, about a bad decision made by a man with the best intention about hiding his daughter born with Downs, and what "family" really means.
Station Eleven, Emily St. John Mandel, a post-apocalyptic novel featuring real people who already had some problems--and who don't live in LA or NYC, aren't strong or famous, just real. My favorite of the genre.
The Long and Faraway Gone, Lou Berney, about the struggles of those who survive where their loved ones did not, and their search for answers--but not a bit mawkish or sentimental.
A Prayer for Owen Meany. You can also google lists like The Top Fifty Books You Should Read. They have great suggestions. Good luck and enjoy !!
A dark-adapted eye by Barbara Vine.
What about "The Saga of Sago"? It's all about the food, Sago, and is written in alliterative verse. It's like "Beowulf", but with starch.
The Blue Lagoon (the official edition, of course) is both deep and sad, but also the best classic romantic novel (written in the the first half of the 20th century).
