Why when repossession agents try to repossess something, they risk getting arrested rather than law enforcement cooperating with them?

If the "paperwork" is not actually a court order to recover the property, it doesn't mean squat. If it is an actual "order of repleven" then the police shouldn't have an issue with it.

Police do not "protect the scene" for repo agents or bounty hunters (same thing only different). The get called if there is a problem. This is a civil matter, not criminal.

Those shows are re-enactments of events and have drama added to keep your interest. Totally phony like ALL "reality" shows.

Your first sentence is SELF-CONTRADICTORY. Law enforcement cooperating or not has nothing to do with if the Repo agent was risking arrest. Even if they are acting 100% within the law, there is no reason for law enforcement to cooperate beyond checking the paperwork to verify the repossession is legal and stand beck.

Note: Having the police show up essentially GUARANTEES the repossession can't happen.

Yes, you watch too much TV.  It is standard in MY State for the "repo men" to notify the Police of the pending "repo" to avoid standoffs.
