Governments, naw. Google on the other hand.... We give away so much data every day that algorithms out there can probably do a pretty decent job of predicting out preferences and possibly actions in certain scenarios. I take great delight in using different browsers for different aspects of my internet use and because this sort of thing is interesting I use different kinds of privacy measures. Occasionally I turn the ads on to see who the internet thinks I am. I am delighted when they are far off the mark, somewhat perturbed when they get it right. Twice I've gotten YouGov polls asking whether I'd consent to share my browsing history with the NHS in return for shorter waiting times. I did not like the road behind even asking that question. It was quite sinister to me.

The technology to read thoughts is already on the shelf, and it would be naive to belief that the 3-letter agencies are ignoring it.
