DFW was into gonzo, including porn; Lolita is about a nymphomaniac; American Psycho is about torture.

Would suggest you look into:

In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson, who also writes well, but about vacationing in Australia;
For Couples Only by Shaunti Feldhahn, who shows how to nurture relationship (Lolita, your mother is calling);
Paper Towns, by John Green, about high school and a road trip;
The Code of the Woosters, by P. G. Wodehouse, on the off chance that you might appreciate light romantic comedy;
Understanding Yourself, by Mark Prophet;
The Yoga of Nutrition, by Omraam Aivanhov;
The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, by Lilian Braun, a light mystery series;
Code of Conduct by Brad Thor, well-researched, has more healthy, if that's the right word, violent action;
The Great Divorce, by C. S. Lewis, a novella about visiting heaven;
Worthless:  The Young Person's Indispensable Guide to Choosing the Right Major;
The Quarter-Life Breakthrough;
The Giver.

You think Lolita or American Psycho are good books for a 16 y/o ?
They are not.
There are plenty of other books that are not about pedophiles or psychopaths.

I have been reading poetry books lately, so I would recommend them, it's short and thus easier to understand for younger age person:
⠀⠀
"Finding Identity" by Silenus
"Peace and Other Radical Ideas" by Sasha Temerte
"I am a lighthouse" by Jordana Rombach

Lolita sucks as a teenager 'read'. If she's not into horror, the other choice isn't good either.

Just ask at your local library, the librarians know exactly what 16 year olds like to read.

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.  There are many strong women in it, including Mammy, Dilcey and Prissy (Prissy's passive resistance is great.)  Both the book and the movie stiffened the upper lips of many women in the UK during the Second World War.

Check the non-fiction section of your library. Dewey Decimal 700s for entertainment. 900's for History (920 and 921 for biographies)  early 300s for Women's and Gender studies. Mid 300s for crime. Late 300s for Fashion.

Grapes of Wrath.  MAYBE Catcher in the rye, MAYBE Catch 22, or 1984.  Tom Sawyer / Huckleberry Finn (yeah, I know, some obsolete language, but good to understand that it exists).  I found this list;   https://www.abebooks.com/books/features/50-classic-books.shtml
