Why does this happen?

For some reason, whenever i focus on a person's lips when they're talking, be it a movie or RL, eventually my mind focuses on just the movement and drowns out the sound. So here's my question pertaining to film: Is the audio being dubbed over (I.E Are they silently communicating and the audio overlaid) or is it real and just an issue i have mentally?

thanks

They're really talking - communicating - but sound and vision are recorded separately, so it's possible that occasionally, the two might not be perfectly synchronised.

It could be the system you're watching the movie on. Some audio processors (e.g. surround sound) or if you're listening with bluetooth headphones add audio delays, which could cause the audio and video signals to get out of sync. Even if all the processing is done within the television, one stream can get out of sync with the other.

See if simply pausing the movie and restarting it clears the issue up.
