My mom bought 100 shares of Exxon back in 1982 at about $2300. She's sitting on 800 shares of the merged Exxon Mobil worth about $55,000 and her annual dividends are $2,784. The stock hasn't really gone anywhere in about a decade. She bought some other things with the dividends over the years, All in all its probably underperformed the overall market. But collecting over your invested amount annually now that they are retired is kind of nice.

ExxonMobil was Founded November 30, 1999 so your question is invalid

The stock has had four 1:2 splits since 1979 so they would now own 160 shares. The current price is $68.95 which would make the value around $11,030.

Too bad they didn't buy ten shares of Microsoft when it went public in 1986. Ten shares would now be worth $405,000.

In 1979 the price was 3.52 usd - it split 5 times so 10>20>40>80>160
160 shares at today's price about 69 usd equals 11,040
