They ran out of fuel on the way back.
Once in their cockpit the canopy is locked externally so they in the end really had no choice, they were going to die either way. There was no way back.
I don't think that any of the kamikaze pilots chickened out.
the planes were wire to blow up if they landed .
They were given the option of committing harakiri or they were executed by sword
It depends on who exactly your are talking about. At the end of WWII there were several groups of Kamikaze pilots who DID not kill themselves. One group famously tried to make it to Hawaii but were picked up off the coast. Fearing they would be bullied upon returning to Japan, they stayed in Hawaii. There is a documentary about it I saw years ago. Also the Japanese Helicopter pilot who filmed the James Bond Movie You Only Live Twice was a former Kamikaze pilot who changed his mind (watch the dvd extras for the minor story). For the most part at the end of the war nobody really wanted to have anything to do with the war. Former soldiers came home and threw away their uniforms and in many cases never told their grandchildren they were former soldiers. The other thing is that many citizens had no real idea where their neigbors, friends, etc. were serving and what they did. They had little info. Maybe they knew Mrs. Tanaka's son down the street was on a ship...but thats about it. At the end of the war nobody really wanted to talk about it at all.
參考: have lived and worked in Japan for 25 years and study Japanese history.
Kamikaze aircraft where not fueled to an expense of return flight fuel levels.
So? "What happened to them?"
Death and Ocean drowning is not a pleasant thought!
A dishonorable death in a Shinto culture doesn't end up in a 'Happy Camper' reunion with your ancestors.
They thought about on the way back and killed themselves anyway.
It would have been difficult if not impossible. I'm pretty sure that their aircraft were built in such a way that they could not safely land, for example. They would probably have died no matter what.
Few if any done that and they only had fuel for a one way trip.
