There had been four students absent from recent two classes.

latest=the most recent
eg:-Four members were absent(adj) in the latest two lessons.
eg:-Four members showed absence(n) in the latest two lessons.

應該不會醬子寫的啦! 你所寫的,顯示出一些對英語的誤解:

1. lesson, class, period的差別:
lessons重於授課的內容.就如課本裡面的章節.一本課本可以分成32課.一節(50分鐘)上2課.
classes重在授課的形式 像是老師人數 學生人數 參與形式 時間長度.
periods是與其他課程的對比關係.

2. 所以"缺課"多該使用 classes 或是periods.而少用lessons.理由是 "缺席"多是形式上的認定.

3. 回到原題:共有四個成員缺席最近兩次的課程...

 "最近兩次"是今天早上的第一,二節課(也許是因為早上拉肚子?)還是上周三與上上周三共二次同樣的英語課程呢?

"課程" 是指上課沒有報到呢 還是 不專心導致 對課題 不知所云呢?

要是你是說: 
今天早上的第一,二節課沒有報到.

上2次(英語)課沒有報到(翹課）:
Four (students) missed the last two (English) classes.

你所寫的意思是：
Four members were absent for the latest two lessons.
＝有四個學員沒有學　最近的２課（章節）

４．lessons神時候會用到呢？
就像我在前面說到的：lesson是專重於＂內容". 那我就用這個例子來說明吧：

我第三課（課程）考差了　是因為我缺席了三堂課．
I failed lesson 3 because I skipped 3 classes.

我當了三課(的小考)　是因為我翹了四節課．
I flunked (the quiz for) three lessons because I skipped four classes.

清楚了吧？

1，There 是虛主詞，其用法為主詞過長或弱化整句句意等使用，例如:There is an apple in the bottle.
