Can someone help me with this math problem?
When baking a cake you can choose between a round pan with a 9 in diameter and a 8 by 11 in. Rectangular pan.
A) determine the area of the base of each pan
B) If both pans are 2 in deep determine the volume of each pan
C) Which pan has the larger volume?
回答 (6)
AREA
round
a = πr^2
a = π(9/2)^2
a = 3.14 * 4.5^2
a = 63.6 in^2
Rectangular
a = l * w
a = 8 * 11 = 88 in^2
---------------------------
VOLUME
round
v = 63.6 * 2
a = 127.2 in^3
rectangular
v = 88 * 2
v = 176 in^3
--------------------------
The rectangulr pan has a larger volume
I never was good at maths I can't help you with this question
use what Mike's explanation
Circle A = πr² = π(9/2)² = 63.6 in²
8x11 = 88 in²
volumes are 63.6 in²x2 in = 127 in³
88x 2 = 176 in³
surely you can do part c?
Find the areas of the circle and of the rectangle, then multiply each by two, for volume. Which number is bigger?
And kudos to whoever came up with this math problem, which shows why we need to learn math to cope with the real world.
The only way to find out would be to bake two cakes and weigh them.
