Dilution by water will be apparent in both viscosity and density. If you have used that paint, there is no way to backtrack unless you sample the paint basically immediately after use. Water contents will have changed after exposure to air, and the rate of water loss is not easily known.

Check the thickness by running the paint through a funnel. If it flows freely through the funnel, you know the paint is thinned enough. If the paint is too thick, add an additional ⅛ cup of water per gallon (3.8 liters) of water and mix.
