Will my wife need a work visa if we move to Brazil?

Shes more of a housewife/homemaker type. I make the money. Will it be different there? Will she have to work? I know jobs dont pay as much in brazil so it's likely she might have to anyways. I'm just worried about depending on her to keep a job for the duration of her work visa. Does anyone know the process in which families move to Brazil from the US?

Yes, if you can obtain a temporary employment visa to work in Brazil, your wife, as a dependent spouse, will be prohibited from working unless she can first obtain a work permit. She will have to be fluent in Portuguese as well as have job skills needed in Brazil to have any hope of finding work there. Unemployment rates are high in Brazil, and she has little hope of working, even if she qualifies for work permit & is fluent in Portuguese unless she has exceptional education, training, skills in short supply there.

Of course she won't HAVE to work -- why would she? -- but if she DECIDED to work, she'd need a work visa. She could get one if she had skills and experience a employer couldn't necessarily find among Brazilians. She'd also need to speak Portuguese.

Firstly, if you are able to move to Brazil, then your wife will NOT be forced to work - but she certainly can't claim any state handouts. She will require a work visa, if she decides to work. That said, she can't work unless she is fluent in Portuguese as no-one will employ her.

to move to brazil, one of you (and as it seems like your wife isn't the working type) will need to qualify to live and work there... so you need the necessary skills and experience in short supply there.. not to mention the language skills

Good luck

If you follow the program "90 day fiancé" you will see a feature about and American man who marries a Brazilian woman and lives in Brazil (like a Brazilian) for whatever reason, which is not made clear. He does not speak Portuguese. I suggest you see that and decide what makes you different, because you don't want the situation that they are in. And then consider that if you are different, the locals will run a knife through you for money in you pocket. Seriously, consider your safety.

Jobs don't pay as much but the cost of living is lower so it sort of balances out. If she intends to work she'll need a work visa. If she's not going to work she can just be a dependent on your work visa.
