You can...But depends on what your goal is here.

If you are trying to test the waters to see what he thinks about you or if he likes you and can potentially handle the rejection if he doesn't feel the same, or potentially that he likes you too and can both move forward towards a potential relationship, then sure ask.

But if you are not ready for rejection, then perhaps get to know him better and he you before you say something. That way at least you can see where he is at in the relationship game. Is he dating, wants to date, not dating anyone, not interested in women or a certain gender. I guess what i am saying here is if you do not know much about him, it might be good for you to step back a second and see where his life is at. What he is all about. Otherwise you can say something and if he does not reflect the same feelings, you could be left hurt, shocked, upset and humiliated.
