Volunteer firefighters?

I want to become a volunteer firefighter and maybe see how much i like it and use that to possibly become a full on firefighter. Do volunteer firefighters get paid, if so how much? Is it by the call? By the hour? Salary? I live in Monroe County Michigan. I keep getting different answers from the internet and i was hoping to get a real persons insight on it. Thank you!

Nope. That's what volunteer means, it means you offer to do so without any expectation of compensation or reward.

Volunteers NEVER get paid and are NEVER allowed to except food, water or any gift.
