Sometimes, it is.

After I got out of college, I had a few interviews at hotels. Usually, the person doing hiring was flying in from somewhere else.

It can be if they don't have an office in the city, or perhaps want to keep hiring away from the office.

Initial interviews for almost all executive positions take place outside of the office at hotels/restaurants, etc.

For a position like yours, it's unusual but not unheard of.
- does the company even have physical offices or does everyone work remotely?
- it could be that their they are meeting many candidates and this is an easier way to do it than in their own offices.
- their office space might be under repairs/refurbishment
- or they don't want the existing employee to know they are recruiting for a replacement.

If you are sure it's a legitimate company and this is a legitimate job, I'd attend the interview. Do not accept the job until you have seen their offices (if there are offices). If you are offered the job, say "I'm very excited about this opportunity. i'd like an office tour before making a final decision."

As long as the meeting is not in a private guest room, there's nothing abnormal about it.

Of course.... Be aware that the last question will be

"If i was to hire you right now then what are you willing to do which will show me that you are willing to go the extra mile"

I once went to an interview in a Marriott Hotel. If the company has the money, this is normal. My interview was for a shop which was still being built, so that's why it took place in the Marriott.

Once interviewed a guy in a diner in case all he wanted to do was come in and look around at the products we were working on. It is not that unusual to not meet at the companies location.

Where is the company/job located? If it's quite far from where you live, it would not be unusual to hold interviews in a hotel conference room, or perhaps even the lobby if it is quiet enough. The person could also be in town on other business.

I wouldn't call it normal, but it's not uncommon. I've done it, both as an interviewer and the interviewee. People travel, sometimes it's the most convenient place.

is the employer from another town? is the interviewer staying at the hotel? it is normal if the HRD staff is staying at the hotel but other than that, it is a bit unusual if an interview takes place outside the office building. Maybe you should ask why?
