When can I remove dressing/bandages from bad finger cut?

So I was working in a kitchen and accidentally cut part of my finger with a dull knife. There was a chunk of my finger missing as well as a bit of fingernail.

I went to the emergency room, they couldn’t stitch it so they put on “bondage” stuff, to me it looks like little pieces of foam and then wrapped it with a lot of gauze really tight.

It has been about 36 hours now and I’ve removed the gauze and bandages but the dressing/bondage foam stuff is still stuck to my finger tip there they put it and I’m afraid to rip it off Incase I reopen my finger cut, it’s stopped bleeding entirely but I don’t want to take a risk.

Any advice?

Yes--leave it alone! It is doing its job of helping your injury heal. 36 hours isn't nearly enough time for the wound to properly close, and you don't want a raw wound on your finger, where it touches everything! You should cover the foam with a bandage. Yes, bandages need to be replaced daily, but this foam part should not be! You'll just have to be patient and leave it on for a few more days. As another person has suggested, ask your Pharmacist if you have questions. They will be happy to share their medical knowledge.

TIP: It's easier to apply a Band**d to your finger if you cut both wings in half, giving you four thin strips instead of two thick ones.

Leave it on and over time when you have a bath/wash your hands the dressing will come unstuck from your skin.
