The artist should provide you with detailed care instructions.

A bandage will be put on after the tattoo is finished. Depending on the type of bandage used, the artist might tell you to leave it on for 24 hours, or take it off after 3-4.

Once the bandage is removed, use unscented liquid soap to gently wash the area. Pat dry with a soft cloth (don't use paper towels or tissue). Apply a thin layer of plain ointment (aquaphor, bacitracin, or an ointment supplied by your artist).

Avoid direct sun exposure and avoid swimming.

As the tattoo heals, you will notice some flaking and maybe some scabbing. It will also ITCH. DO NOT scratch your tattoo, or pick/peel at the flaking skin. This can damage it. Simply continue to apply the ointment until it is healed.
