The best by date on a carton of ice cream has four numbers, separated by three slashes: 09/08/21/07
What does this mean?? Which is the year?? I know it s slightly old, but it can t be from 2007. Can someone please help me read this?

I m guessing it s the first 3 numbers, but try going to their website and looking at the FAQ or searching for best by date or doing a live chat or sending an email. There is a good chance the info is right there - I ve found it on several websites.

You can't assume they are straight dates, many companies have stamps that are codes for the date, the plant, the line, the shift, etc that the product was made on. The 09 could be a code for the year 2019,

There are a lot of ways to print or burn these numbers onto food packaging which would effect how things could go wrong but it really sounds like a misprint. Maybe you're getting part of two different dates.
