No.
These elections are for electing euro MPs.
It depends where you live. Parties standing in all UK seats are
Labour
Conservative
Liberal Democrat
Green (and associated regional groups like Scottish Green)
UKIP
Brexit
Change UK
Candidates standing in only some seats are
SNP
Sinn Fein
Plaid Cymru
Alliance
DUP
English Democrat
Animal Welfare
Equality
And numerous independent candidates. Which parties and candidates you can vote for depends on where you live.
Some parties are very pro-EU and want to remain - these include the SNP, Sinn Fein, Lib Dem and Green. Some are very anti-EU and want to leave - these include UKIP, Brexit and English Democrat. Some are in the middle (or haven't made their position clear) - these include Labour and Conservative.
However this is all *completely* irrelevant, because they don't actually have any power to leave OR remain - that is an issue for the NATIONAL government, not the EU.
The election is not a referendum on EU membership.
Firstly, it's an election, NOT a referendum. An election is to elect PEOPLE.
The election is to elect members of the European Parliament. This happens every 5 years. If Brexit had been done on time, we wouldn't need to have any election, but as we have a bunch of useless indecisive MPs, the EU insists that we vote as we are still members. And you need to be a citizen of an EU country or you can't vote.
The election takes place, unlike other elections in the UK, by closed-list proportional representation by region. Each region elects a number of MEPs. Each party puts up a list of candidates, you can only vote for a party, and whatever fraction of the vote they get, they get that fraction of the MEPs. Of course it has to be rounded off to the nearest one and parties that don't get enough votes to even count for one MEP won't get anyone elected.
I see from previous questions that you live in London, so you're in the London Region. That elects 8 MEPs. The choices available are Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Brexit Party, UKIP, Green, Change UK, UKEUP, Animal Welfare Party, Women's Equality Party, and 11 independent candidates, so it's quite a long list. You just need to vote for ONE of those. That's all.
Then the votes are counted, it is calculated how many of the 8 places each party should get, and that's the result. That won't be declared until Sunday as most of the other EU countries don't vote until Sunday. For example, the London Region result 5 years ago was Labour 4, Conservative 2, UKIP 1 and Green 1.
So all YOU have to do is look at that long list, and pick one. Only vote for one.
if you have the right to vote in uk, european or brit citizen, you get jut one vote for your nation (europeans resident in eu need to sign an extra form beforehand). UK is divided into regions and your county district will be in one of them, example west midlands, each district is allocated a certain number of meps and there will probably be more than one standing for each party. they are listed in their party by number. you choose one person only in any party. results for meps will be given on following monday as spread over several days, uk 23rd only. postal vote also possible but should likely be already done.
You get one option. You tick ONE box.
Some stupid remain movements are encouraging people to tick up to 3 boxes for UKIP, TBP and TR. That will just spoil their vote .
ONE BOX. ONE X.
it is a vote for MEPs, but for the UK it is basically just another referendum. You will see the Brexit party take control of the EU area which will mean that the UK government will HAVE to involve them in negotiations.
VOTE FOR THE BREXIT PARTY - CHANGE POLITICS FOR GOOD.
we are going to bring out the best
No, you'll be voting for your Member of European Parliament
This is not for Brexit but to vote for MPs for the EU parliament. Total waste of time as we are leaving and they will be out of a job.
I for one will not be voting.
No. Those who can vote have the right to elect a Member of the European Parliament, to represent their part of the UK in the EU.
Some of those standing for election are AGAINST the EU and its parliament so you might think they are being hypocritical standing for election and being willing to draw the MASSIVE salary plus HUGE expenses plus GARGANTUAN pension to be paid out of taxpayer's pockets.
Some standing for election believe the UK should play a constructive role in Europe for as ling as the UK remains a member of the EU. Some of them think we should remain a member of the EU but that is NOT what we are voting for this time.
While the UK remains a member of the EU, we have to hold these elections. If we leave the EU, the people we elect next week will lose their job .... but still be entitled to their pension and to a massive pay-off.
