It depends on the cause. For most people its caused by yeasts and Nizoral shampoo has the most effective medication for yeast and other fungal infections (Ketaconazole). For some people dandruff is caused by psoriasis which is treated best with coal tar. Coal tar also helps some with yeast, but its not as good as ketaconazole.. Two good shampoos for psoriasis are Denorex Therapeutic Dandruff Shampoo + Conditioner, Maximum Itch Relief or Neutrogena T/Gel. If you don't know the cause, yo could try a coal tar product first, and if that doesn't work miracles, switch to Nizoral. Note: none of these products are intended for daily use.
