Would you expect an exceptionally beautiful girl to be the tagert for bullying by other females??? Detailed answer please!?

I'm wondering, because I used to have a friend in high school, who used to get targeted by other girls for no reason. She was mixed race with glowing tanned/brown skin and she had a very pretty face and figure. Sometimes I feel like she was overly pretty/ had captivating beauty. So many people would say how stunning she was and others at the same time would be very mean to her. She would not say anything to stop them, but if she did, the bullies would make a big argument out of it. It painted my friend in a bad picture, because it made her seem argumentative and troublesome, when she was only sticking up for herself. No one stuck up for her, not even her friends realised what she was going through (I'm sure they did). She seemed lonely and utterly miserable. Even male teachers treated her with intense admiration or hate! To top it off she had exceptional manners, elegance, style and decorum. One of the nicest people around, which made others think she was weak and defenseless. People would say that she looks and walks like a model (she did). At the same time they would say she thinks too highly of herself and is stuck up? I don't understand why anyone would dislike her and be mean to her, when she's too nice. Shes just different from everyone and stands out. As a friend I want to Know why she had this intense affect on others. Not just on students, but on teachers too? They either loved her or hated her presence. Is there something more to this?
