It doesn't violate rights since rights cannot be violated where there are none. Rights are not intrinsic, granted out of thin air. They are enforced by the State if they exist at all, if they are not enforced they do not exist. The State cannot be accused of violating rights because it grants them to begin with. The nation is superior to individual rights.

You mean the NSA?

There's two sides to this:

A) The data the NSA is collecting is too vast for them to view and violate the liberties of Americans. So, they focus mostly on bad actors.

B) Government can never be trusted with that much power even if it sometimes used to for the good of society.
