What did Jesus mean at John 12:49?

For I have not spoken of my own initiative, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment about what to say and what to speak.

Seems pretty straight forward to me

Jesus did not come to be God, though He is God. Jesus came to be a man. and as a Man He did the Father's will

Regardless of what Jesus may have learned from his mother, Mary, and his adoptive father, Joseph, he received his principal training for the ministry from the highest Source.

Jesus said: “I have not spoken out of my own impulse, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a commandment as to what to tell and what to speak.” John 12:49

Notice that the Son was given specific instruction about what to teach. Before coming to the earth, Jesus undoubtedly spent much time listening to his Father’s instruction.

Verses 44-46 explain. Despite doing many miracles, a lot of people would not believe Him to be the promised Messiah, the Son of God. So Jesus cried out:
"When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in him who sent me. When he looks at me, he sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no-one who believes in me should stay in darkness."

That is why John's account starts with the revelation that this Jesus is the Word, who was with God in the beginning, who IS God, and who made everything that was made. The words of the Father are the words of the Word of God, who became flesh as Mary's child. How could the Word of God - the Son - ever speak words that were not the words of the Father? He was sent into this world to share the words of eternal life.

Just fictitious dialog.

It means that Jesus spoke words not of a man, but of God.

HE IS NOT GOD THE ALMIGHTY. He is in subjection to his father.

Jesus is not a Trinity, 3in1, He is part of a Godhead where there are 3 that rule over earth , but as I understand it, the Godhead has thrones for every planet and there are 70sextillian stars and over 2 trillion galaxies and I think each Galaxy has a God Almighty presiding over it's kingdoms and Sons of God's ruling in their kingdoms for as many as 200 billion habital planets might be inhabited in all the galaxies Imo, as the say goes! "World's without end"
Now ask yourselves where do I'm mortal and eternal resurrected being habitate?
Also did I say compare John 8:42. Jesus said He did not send himself and in John 10:30 it says God and Jesus are one but compare this to John 10:17:15-24. The usage of the word one is more like a unity also NOT a Trinity and the Jesus prays his disciples will be one in him, also not a Trinity! And now the 3in1 Trinity is more like a 14in1, which is more like a gidhead with many thrones and many kingdoms. And where there are kingdoms there is space and there is no space without a kingdom.
Now, also compare Rev 3:21 kjv
Is this describing the godhead while inviting men to overcome all things ... And then what does it mean to be invited to a throne of God ? It means an open invitation ad infinitum aiui

He meant exactly what He said.

John 12:49
The commission which our Lord Jesus received from the Father to deliver his doctrine to the world (v. 49): I have not spoken myself, as a mere man, much less as a common man; but the Father gave me a commandment what I should say. This is the same with what he said ch. 7:16. My doctrine is, (1.) Not mine, for I have not spoken of myself. Christ, as Son of man, did not speak that which was of human contrivance or composure; as Son of God, he did not act separately, or by himself alone, but what he said was the result of the counsels of peace; as Mediator, his coming into the world was voluntary, and with his full consent, but not arbitrary, and of his own head. But, (2.) It was his that sent him. God the Father gave him, [1.] His commission. God sent him as his agent and plenipotentiary, to concert matters between him and man, to set a treaty of peace on foot, and to settle the articles. [2.] His instructions, here called a commandment, for they were like those given to an ambassador, directing him not only what he may say, but what he must say. The messenger of the covenant was entrusted with an errand which he must deliver. Note, Our Lord Jesus learned obedience himself, before he taught it to us, though he was a Son. The Lord God commanded the first Adam, and he by his disobedience ruined us; he commanded the second Adam, and he by his obedience saved us. God commanded him what he should say and what he should speak, two words signifying the same thing, to denote that every word was divine. The Old-Testament prophets sometimes spoke of themselves; but Christ spoke by the Spirit at all times. Some make this distinction: He was directed what he should say in his set sermons, and what he should speak in his familiar discourses. Others this: He was directed what he should say in his preaching now, and what he should speak in his judging at the last day; for he had commission and instruction for both.
