What is it like to go to court for not stopping at a stop sign?
A couple months ago, I was driving to college, the way i go every day. then i come up to is this very residential back road that is empty most of the time. there is this really random stop sign, and when you pull up to it, going straight, on the left is another road (also with a stop sign), and on the right is someones DRIVEWAY. its a totally random and unnecessary stop sign. I slowed down a bit, looked both ways, and slightly rolled through it. little did i know, a cop was hiding in the bushes (probably bc he knows its a stupid stop sign that no one cares about). he pulls me over, and asks me if i know why. i say “was it the stop sign?” clearly because thats the last thing i did, and i wasnt speeding. he says yes, thats why. long story short he gave me a ticket and our conversation was written on it. he wrote that i said “yes” when he asked if i knew why he pulled me over!!! this was the first time i was ever pulled over, and my mom told me to plead not guilty. so i did that. and now i have court in a few days and im really nervous. i have social anxiety. can i technically even plead not guilty when the cop wrote down that i said “yes” when he asked me if i knew why i was being pulled over??? even when i didnt exactly say yes??? and what should i tell the judge, since i already pleaded not guilty? my mom pays for the insurance and i really dont want it to go up because of me and some ridiculous ticket

You didn't actually say you did anything wrong or admit guilt to the cop. You admitted you knew why he pulled you over. I have no idea what kind of case you plan to make to the Judge though. I mean you admit on here you didn't stop completely and so you broke the law. Doesn't matter how stupid you think the location is, if the sign is there you have to stop. City likely heard a lot of people run the sign and ask the police to watch it.
you get to hang around all day then pay a fine .
What is the point of pleading not guilty to something you know you did? You aren't going to win.
What's it like in court? Well, it is clear from your question that you still have not accepted responsibility. The judge will see that too and find you guilty.
Yes, you can still plea not guilty. There is a chance the prosecutor will offer you traffic school or a reduced fine. Better yet, seeing this was your mom's idea, ask her.
As far as anything you said, that is irrelevant. Traffic laws are "strict liability". That means they don't have to prove you knew what you did. The officer just has to testify to what he saw.
You already admitted guilt. So...if you can afford it, bring an attorney that deals in such a thing.
not good try to avoid that
