What Was the Reaction of the World War II Japanese Soldiers ?
After successfully conquered Malaya in 1942, how did the Japanese Soldiers feel when they saw Singapore for the 1st time?

Can say the same for the reaction of Nazi soldiers marching into Paris or other places. Still doesn't change the fact the conquered territories in WWII by the Axis powers were brutalized and terrorized for years under tyrannical rule.
They were quite excited, apparently. Western obsevers of the time noted down lots of their comments. One corporal was heard saying to a sergeant "Hey, that's a really nice city" and one officer was overheard saying to his men "Gosh, there's lots of buildings in this city. It's really nice". Hope this helped.
They were very excited. Japanese militarism proffered social mobility to the lower classes and its own Pan-Asian world view. Ergo, a lot of them probably thought it was brilliant that they got to leave their crappy villages and go to a classy place like Singapore. It's the same as there were likely American soldiers who thought the whole war was worthwhile because they would get to go to Paris.
