關於英文假設語氣的問題?

This purchase _______ a poor decision if it had been made for investment purposes only.
由this purchase的語意來看：加上this，表示採購已經成交了（是存在的事實），而且「是」一個「好」的決定。現在我們「假設」它是個「壞」的決定，所給的條件就是「虛假的」，過去未曾發生或過去不存在；對過去事件的不實假設，就要用「過去完成式」，「條件句」裡用的是had been made（make的過去完成式被動態）。「結果句」的時序在「條件句」之後，動詞也要用「過去完成式」，但要加上過去式助動詞would，表示時間點在條件句之「後」，即would have been。

would be是用在「現在/將來不可能存在」的狀況，如：
If we "had stayed" in that hotel, we "would be" dead now.（我們「現在」沒死呢！）

但poor decision從過去以來一直都不是事實，所以不能用would be。

1). tense 僅着重present 與past。
subjunctive中，if 可表顛倒說，
時點往前移， present 移為past,
past 移為 past perfect。
It's time you went to bed. (主句現在時)
2). modal 情態助動 would, will
表說話者mood，當下意望之婉轉、堅決。以當下modal，意謂過去時，
就以would have + pp表達。
I would like to see you soon. (非過去時)
I should have given you the gift. (過去時)
3). 本題傳統套招，if 既是 had + pp,
主句當是modal 過去時 。出題者拿
modal 意謂過去時，考考罷了。
4). 這些形式表達，容易學。說寫使用時，可多研習 verb pattern 之用法 (usage)，不僅僅是背記vi 或vt。

Example (A) states that investment had not been made;
then the purchase would not have been a poor decision.僅為投資,未必糟糕.
Example (B) should would be used in Main Clause, then If Clause should use Past(in fact, subjunctive Improbable Condition)=was made =it is unlikely to do so.若為投資,便糟糕?
