Help with homeless mom?

My mom is a complete mess. She is about to be kicked out of where she’s living. My landlord won’t let her live with me in my one bedroom apartment because of her drug abuse history and 5th degree assault. She’s 44 years old and can’t keep a job.

She has over $30,000 in child support that needs to be paid back and can’t get her drivers license until she pays it. My mom has been living like this since she was 18 years old.

Am I horrible and selfish for not wanting to help her anymore? I’m stressed and burned out! I just want to be able to live my life without worrying about her.

You should cut off all contact with her before she drags you down to her level.

Your mom is grown it’s a tough decision but you’ve helped her as much as you could. If you can no longer do it, then don’t. Maybe it’ll be a wake up call.

A person can only do so much for relatives who cannot or will not "get with the program" and take responsibility for themselves. My family has recently had to tell a relative "We will help you sign up for public assistance and we will send you $___ a month, but you have to move out of our home and start taking care of yourself. We aren't going to be your Mommy and Daddy."
