Scanner Frequencies?

Hi, I live on the east coast of the U.S. I’m a huge fire buff, how would I be able to pick up a frequency from the west coast such as LAFD of LACoFD? I monitor them on online scanners and through scanner apps but is it possible to pick them up on a handheld (not a phone)? If not, how to I add their frequency to a scanner app or Broadcastify? Thanks in advance!!

There is no way to receive such signals directly from across the continent. You will have to be satisfied with the apps you've already found.
Also, many PDs and some FDs use encrypted comms, so you can't listen to them anyway.
There is enough info available from online sources
that you should be able to easily find out all of what you need to know.
