good business model?

There's a 2006 Dodge Caravan that is very good shape, 96,000 miles, owned by neighbor, no body damage whatsoever, well kept. He's an older guy into classic sports cars and his wife has a 2017 Mustang, so he barely drives the van. He is selling it to me for $2,500.

I was thinking of buying the van, and rent it out at $25 per day.

The insurance you'll have to carry to cover "for hire" use will probably cost you more than $25 a day. Your personal auto policy excludes this type of use.

Don't quit your day job.

No. The problem is that as the owner of the van, you could get sued by anyone injured in an accident, or by the family of anyone killed. Even if you get the person renting to sign something that seems to protect you, if they injure or kill someone else, you can get sued by that person (or their family). To rent out vehicles you really need millions of dollars in insurance, and I'm sure you can't afford that.

AND you'll be lucky to rent it once a month.

$25 a day won't cover your insurance liability and taxes, so no. Lousy business model.

Great idea. How much are you spending on insurance?
