Calculate the theoretical yield, in grams, of O2 gas that can be obtained by thermal decomposition of 0.856 g of potassium chlorate in the presence of manganese dioxide:
A) Convert moles of KClO3 to moles of O2 using stoichiometry (molar ratio betwen KClO3 and O2 from the balanced chemical equation_________mol O2
B) Calculate the FW of O2_________g/mol
C) Convert the moles of O2 (from A above) to grams of O2:________g O2. That mass in grams represents the theoretical yield of O2 gas.

✔ 最佳答案
A)
FW of KClO₃ = (39.1 + 35.5 + 16.0×3) g/mol = 122.6 g/mol
Moles of KClO₃ = (0.856 g) / (122.6 g/mol) = 0.00698 mol

2KClO₃ → 2KCl + 3O₂
Mole ratio KClO₃ : O₂ = 2 : 3
Moles of O₂ = (0.00698 mol) × (3/2) = 0.0105 mol (to 3 sig. fig.)

B)
FW of O₂ = 16.0 × 2 g/mol = 32.0 g/mol

C)
Grams of O₂ = (0.0105 mol) × (32.0 g/mol) = 0.336 g
