Therapy is all about giving a patient ideas to help themselves and about learning some good life coping skills. Therapists don't have magic wands, and they don't "cure" mental illness. they do the same thing as self-help websites for anxiety do, except going to a therapist is a lot slower process, because they only give us one thing to work on at the time, usually.

anxiety self-help
self-confidence self-help
self-esteem self-help
and it all works when we take what we think will help us and apply the ideas to our daily lives, one day at the time. It works when we WORK IT. It's the same as therapy.
It's up to us to put forth effort to make positive life changes. And it doesn't happen overnight.
