Pam walks along a road which can be modeled by the equation y=3x, where (0,0) represents her starting point. When she reaches the point (7,21), she turns right, so that she is traveling perpendicular to the original road, until she stops at a point which is due east of her starting point (in other words, on the x-axis). What is the point where Pam stops?

The point B where Pam stops is on x-axis.
Let (a, 0) be the coordinates of B.

Slope of OA = 3

Since OA⊥AB, slope of AB = 1/3
(21 - 0) / (7 - a) = -1/3
21/(7 - a) = -1/3
63 = -7 + a
a = 70

The point where Pam stops = (70, 0)

Perpendicular to the original road is y= (-1/3)x
0 - 21= (-1/3)(x - 7); x - 7= 63; x= 70 or (70, 0)
