General Chemistry help?
Briefly explain the difference between ionization and solubility for a covalent compound.
回答 (1)
Solubility of a certain covalent compound is the maximum amount of the compound that can dissolve in 100 g of water (the solvent) at a certain temperature.
For example, the solubility of ammonia at 25°C is 31 g/100 g of water.
Ionization of a certain covalent compound means that the covalent compound reacts with water (the solvent) to form ions. For example, the ionization of ammonia can be shown by the following reaction:
NH₃(g) + H₂O(l) ⇌ NH₄⁺(aq) + OH⁻(aq)
