Labour prepared to back new Brexit referendum! WHY? I was one of the MAJORITY who voted "OUT" - I expect my wishes to be RESPECTED!?

I'm across the pond so take my answer with a grain of salt.

From a foreigner's perspective it seems that few people, for or against, understood what Brexit entailed. But once Parliament started getting into the details it became clear that a No-Deal Brexit defeats the justification for leaving the EU in the first place (at least some of it).

If you can work out what Labour's Brexit policy is, you're about the only one in the country who knows. Anyway, what would another referendum be ABOUT? They haven't said.

The only credible choice that could be in the referendum is Deal (the one that has been negotiated - the EU is quite clear after 2 years of talking that it's not going over all this again) or No Deal. The choice the House of Commons already has, in fact. Now as Labour doesn't support either, one has the sneaking suspicion that they want to throw it to the people because they are incapable of deciding for themselves. Exactly the reason Harold Wilson had a referendum in 1975.

The only other real options are whether it should be delayed while the Commons makes up its collective mind, which in the limited time left would also have to be done to give time for a second referendum. Or whether it should be cancelled completely - but that's the one thing that IS clear, we voted for it, so we must have it or the referendum was totally pointless. So even Labour isn't suggesting that.

Putting all that together, I can only conclude that Labour wants a referendum because it completely incapable of deciding for itself.
