Why do people say "the office" is a good show?

I've tried watching it and I don't get it. I find my attention hanging on the side of a cliff the entire time. It's not interesting but I don't find it boring enough to change the channel. What is it that I'm not seeing that everyone else apparently IS able to see?

You'll find that taste plays a huge part in stuff like this. Maybe Office just isn't your taste. Initially it's primarily Dilbert-esque parody of tropes about working in an office. Maybe a bit less insightful than Dilbert. But as time goes on it develops it's own character base and the Jim-Pam-Dwight triad really dominates the show's heart.

One thing I hated was Steve Carell. I never found Michael Scott funny. He's just TOO over the top. And Steve Carell is not a funny person in anything. But the characters AROUND Michael I thought were more than worth it.

But your mileage may vary, and that's okay. If you're not enjoying it, go watch something else. It's okay to just say "That wasn't my taste."

You need to see it from the beginning. It takes a few episodes to get into it. Not every episode is a hit.

Are you watching the original with Ricky Gervais or the American facsimile? Try the original if you have only seen the American attempt.

I had the same problem with Seinfeld, it just wasn't funny to me. That's just how humor works.
